About Big I NH
The New Hampshire Association of Insurance Agents, or Big I NH, is a statewide alliance of 2,000 business owners and their employees who offer all types of insurance and financial services products.
Unlike company-employed agents, Big I NH’s producers represent multiple insurance companies, enabling them to offer clients a wider range of auto, home, business, life, health, and retirement products. Big I NH producers not only advise clients about insurance but also recommend loss-prevention strategies that can reduce costs. If a loss occurs, the independent agent stands with the client until the claim is settled.
Founded in 1899 with its primary office in Concord, New Hampshire, Big I NH underwent several name changes to reflect the growing diversity and expansion of its membership. In 1964, the organization changed its name to the NH Association of Independent Insurance Agents to highlight its members’ ability to work with multiple insurance companies. A slight name variation followed in 1975 to align with a national association name change. In 2002, the name was further updated to the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New Hampshire to recognize the diversity and growth of its membership. In 2020, the association adopted the national name “Big I NH” alongside NHAIA, and it is currently recognized by both names.
The office moved from Concord to Claremont in 1969 and then back to Concord in 1974. Big I NH currently maintains its executive office and educational facility in Concord at 6 Garvins Falls Road.
Big I NH is a voluntary statewide trade association whose independent insurance producers are politically astute and actively involved both locally and nationally. They monitor and influence insurance issues in Washington through their national government affairs staff on Capitol Hill. Additionally, they work to address local insurance concerns through their professional staff in Concord. Big I NH’s political action committee, IPAC, is one of the most active local trade association PACs in the state.
